What are the different types of recruiting companies?

There are a range of different types of companies all with different policies and benefits. These perks come with their pros and cons and should be analyzed by placing them in two different categories, bigger vs smaller companies.

When thinking of it logically, one would think that bigger is better right? Well, this could not be farther from the truth as bigger is not better. There are many variables to consider when deciding between a bigger vs smaller company.

BIGGER COMPANIES:

Remember the piece of the pie I mentioned earlier?
Bigger recruiting companies have more overhead AND take a bigger margin of your paycheck than smaller companies, it can range anywhere between 20-30%.
Therefore, these bigger companies don’t tend to pay as well.
Additionally, in my experience, big companies tend to have poorer customer service, communication, relationships tend to lack, and red tape exists nearly in every
process in trying to get things done. Some companies have the payroll department not only in a different building, but in a different time zone.

EX) I tend to stay away from larger companies as there is a lot of red tape and rules associated with getting things done in my experience. It took one friend 13 weeks to get a paycheck corrected. That’s unacceptable.

Bigger companies may get a better deal on health insurance- but as a traveler, it pays to carry your own, in my opinion. More on health insurance here.

SMALLER COMPANIES:

The smaller recruiting companies can offer you better pay because there’s less overhead expenses so more money can go towards your paycheck. Their margin hovers between 15-20% which is a fair bit less than what is removed by the big companies. These companies tend to have better customer service which is so important for a traveler constantly on the move. You are not just a number and will feel valued as an employee. These companies can offer you better pay because there’s less overhead expenses so more money can go towards your paycheck.

Some may assume bigger companies have more job opportunities. This may be true to a point, but are they quality jobs? They may be just SNF jobs that are associated with the same company that runs the facility.

TIP: Don’t rack your brain comparing benefits, like 401K, health insurance, etc. Benefits are relatively the same across the board. Go with the company that has the better service and jobs.
